Theoretical Framework - Lesson 4
L/O: To analyse a media text using Media Language
Media language is the terms of what media is and how messages are conveyed? to the public?
camerawork- angle, placement of characters
soundtrack- all noises sounds , what you can hear
editing- special effects , CGI , etc.
Mise-en-scene- costumes, lighting , props etc.
Camerawork:
I think the camera shot is a wide shot because it has a whole body in it ?
I think they chose this shot type to show the main character of the film to the audience before they watch the film ?
Mise-en-scene:
The prop tells us that this is not a cartoon , or a programme for children because guns aren't in children's shows (mostly). The facial expression shows this is not a comedic film as the character isn't smiling and looks quite serious about what he is doing. His clothes tell us this is some action/crime/thriller film as the character seems to have some sort of ammo/bomb or other weapon in his pocket.
Soundtrack:
Apart from dialogue , gunshots are heard mostly to promote that the James Bond film is an action film with scenes of violence in it. I think this helps the audience if they want to watch it depending on if they like action films or not.
Editing:
The transitions used are short cuts so it gives you more suspense as you don't know what will happen next so you would want to see what will happen.
The pace of the transitions go faster towards the end because the advertisers wants to show more suspenseful information but not all of it so it leaves the advert on a cliffhanger , making you want to buy the film .

use spelling punctuation and grammar Explain WHY certain elements of Media Language were used
Use the example paragraph to structure your analysis
In this trailer for Buffy the vampire slayer it shows what the main character does for a living. The camerawork in this trailer is Medium close up, closeup and some wide shots .This is used to show the characters emotions , so we get to know what they are feeling. The sounds in this trailer are dialogue , shouting and screaming , loud fast action music and sound effects ( explosions , better quality punches kicks etc.)For the editing their is a lot of CGI including vampires turning to dust , fire , explosions and more . For Mise-en-scene their is a lot of lighting accurate 'costumes' to fit the characters and make up to fit the villains very nicely , as for setting it fits very good as vampires cant go into the sunlight etc.
Well done Dan - this wasn't easy to do at home without the class input.
