 L/O: To explore how a film is made and the various industry roles.

The big 6 companies have dominated the film industry because they own their own production company, their own distribution company and sometimes their own  exhibition companies. This is good, because they get most ( if not all) their profits back, so they can keep producing films, getting even more profits.This is good as less known companies can't afford this so their film is scrapped.

 Grip. Grip(s) make sure sets and rigs are safely built 

 Gaffer. A gaffer is the head of the Lighting and Power Department on a film set

ADR mixer:ADR Mixers correct dialogue and sound that was weird or a problem in the original production. They remove background noise, re-record dialoge and clean up production audio.



  • all starts with an idea
  • they take pictures to get a good idea of all the risks that they might encounter during filming
  • people play music in time with animation
  • special test screenings for the film, with a small part of the public to go watch it and review it.
  • greenlit,  when a studio approves before hiring crew, script writers

Pre-production: writing the film, getting greenlit by studios and getting the idea/basis of the film

Production: where the cast is hired, locations picked, start filming the film.

Post-Production:  This is where the movie starts to come together and get good. editors edit, make quality of video and sound better. Cut some of the film that was not needed and refine the edges so that it is ready to go into cinemas,


For a low-budget indie film, a distributor should be allowed to recoup between $2,500 - $10,000 per market with an overall cap of $7,500 - $20,000.


A film can be advertised by:

Posters, Trailers, Tv adverts, billboards, radio, the internet youtube sponsors, news,magazines
